Dr. Barbara Schellenberg

If I were to tell you a little about myself, I would tell you that I am a very outgoing, passionate person who absolutely LOVES to work with women and children.  From the time I entered Chiropractic College I knew my vision was to help pregnant women and children reach their maximum potential.  I still feel this way after practicing for about 8 years.  In fact, the passion has even become even greater as I have witnessed the immense potential chiropractic can have for pregnant women and children.

Chiropractic can help create balance within the spine and pelvis and help with many of the issues both women and pregnant women face.  These issues include, but are not limited to:  sciatic pain/buttock pain, low back pain, edema (pre-eclampsia/eclampsia in pregnant women), baby positional issues with pregnancy, restless leg syndrome, fatigue, headaches, sinus issues, allergies, digestive disturbances (heartburn, GERD, irritable bowel) and infertility issues.

Photo of a pregnant mother and daughterChiropractic can also help create balance in the child.  Many people don’t realize that at the time of a newborn’s birth, he/she has already been exposed to 9 months of physical, emotional and biochemical stress.  During the birth itself the infant is exposed to tremendous physical stress (and biochemical stress if medication was administered).  After birth, children continue to remain subjected to these physical, emotional and biochemical stressors daily.  Daily events such as falling, eating toxic foods for his/her body and emotional upsets can really disrupt the harmony of the child’s energy system and create symptoms.  These symptoms are sometimes very subtle and show up as irritability/mood swings, trouble sleeping or poor concentration and sometimes they are more prevalent and show up as infant colic, digestive issues (GERD, spitting up), bed wetting, suppressed immunity (frequent illness such as colds, flu, ear infections), neurological problems (seizures, speech impediments, cerebral palsy), physical limitations (multiple sclerosis, walking issues, crawling issues such as military crawl or no crawling at all) and issues that fall into the autism spectrum such as ADD, Aspergers’ and autism.

My training includes experience working with some of the top chiropractors who focus on the care of pregnant women and children in Minnesota during my residency at Northwestern College of Chiropractic.  I have attending the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) pediatric post-graduate seminars and am currently finishing my Chiropractic Certification and working on my Chiropractic Pediatric Diplomate.  You can learn more about the ICPA at:  www.icpa4kids.org.  I am Webster technique certified and I use a very gently technique with my patients.  I use a hand held instrument to make corrections and help the body balance.  In addition to my pediatric studies, I have attended seminars in topics including:  NET (neuro-emotional technique), Activator Technique, TRT (Torque-Release Technique), SOT (sacral-occipital technique), CST (cranial sacral therapy) and BodyTalk Access.

I have the belief that in order to create balance and optimal well-being, a practitioner needs to address ALL the areas that create imbalance in the first place.  Between my husband’s training and my training, we have the tools to address all of these areas.  That is what makes us DIFFERENT and why we feel we get the results we do.
